🇺🇲Vietnam War Stories: In Memoriam: Honoring Those That Served: Kenneth Wendell Ashby of North Carolina

Today we honor Kenneth Wendell Ashby, of Huntersville North Carolina, who passed away on July 5, 2022 at the age of 75 years old.

“Kenneth Wendell Ashby was born on January 17, 1947 in Indiana. He graduated from Indiana University in 1968 with a degree in International Relations. Ken joined the Navy in 1969 and served in Vietnam as a pilot. After leaving the Navy, Ken was a Captain with Continental Airlines for over 20 years. After this, Ken worked as the Director of Safety for a cargo airline for 10 years. Ken loved cars, riding his Harley and a good cup of coffee. He was also an avid gun enthusiast and had a passion for teaching proper gun safety, even working as a range safety officer in his retirement. He was incredibly proud of his service to his country.”

“Ken was known for his quick wit and his ability to master any task he set out to learn. He liked passing the time by watching a good action movie or listening to some music by Eric Clapton, Creedence Clearwater Revival, or B.B. King. There was always room for watching football with his son, drinking coffee and talking politics with his daughter, or going on Harley rides with his wife. He passed away on July 5, 2022 due to congestive heart failure caused by exposure to Agent Orange during his service in Vietnam. Ken lived life to the fullest until the end and will be greatly missed by his friends and family.” – The Vietnam Veterans Memorial Fund Honor Roll Database
