🇺🇲Vietnam War Stories: Honoring the Heroes We Lost: Philip Howard Sauer of California
Today we honor First Lieutenant Philip Howard Sauer, of Coronado California, who served with the 3rd Marine Division, 3rd Anti Tank Battalion, A Company. Philip was fatally wounded on April 24, 1967 in the Quang Tri Province during one of the initial encounters with the NVA of what would become known as “The Hill Fights” for Hills 861, 881 North and 881 South. Philip was 24 years old.
A recipient of the Silver Star, Bronze Star and
Purple Heart Medals, First Lieutenant Sauer is honored on the Vietnam Veteran’s Memorial in Washington DC on Panel 18E, Line 81. Philip lies in rest at Fort Rosecrans National Cemetery in San Diego California. Lest We Forget.
