Today we honor Sergeant Charles M Shumpert, of New Albany Mississippi, who served with the 101st Airborne Division, 2nd Battalion, 506th Infantry, B Company. Charles was fatally wounded on 11 February 1970 in the Thua Thien province of South Vietnam. Charlie was 21 years old.
A recipient of the Bronze Star and Purple Heart Medals, Sergeant Shumpert is honored on the Vietnam Veteran’s Memorial in Washington DC on Panel 14W Line 128. Charlie lies in rest at Beaver Dam Cemetery in New Albany Mississippi. Lest We Forget.
