HMS Wren photographed from HMS Tracker in the North Atlantic – October 1943

A Black Swan-Class Sloop commissioned on February 1943, Members of the Women’s Royal Naval Service (Wrens) had contributed to a memorial fund for the 22 Wrens killed during the sinking of SS Aguila in 1941. The fund contributed towards HMS Wren’s construction.

During her service HMS Wren was credited with the sinking of five German U-boats;
U-449 on June 24, 1943
U-462 on July 30, 1943
U-504 on July 30, 1943
U-473 on May 6, 1944
U-608 on August 10, 1944

HMS Wren survived WW2 and served until 1955, when she was sold for scrap and broken up at Rosyth in 1956.
For her wartime service HMS Wren was awarded four Battle Honours.
